Problem of the Week: Due Mon, Sep. 12th

Choose a 5-digit number and a 6-digit number.
Create a number that is greater than your 5-digit number but less than your 6-digit number.
In at least 3 different ways, prove that the number you created has a value that is in-between the other two. (You can show this using words, numbers, pictures, graphs, operations, equations, number lines, grids, charts, etc).

Make sure that you annotate (label and explain) each of your methods in words.

  1. This is from Nathan!

    5 digits: 19283
    6 digits: 647328
    In between #:99999

My number is in between because 99 is more than 19. 647328 is a six digit number, and mine is a five digit number, so therefore my number is less than 647328.

    99999<647328

    99999>19283

  2. This is from Tatiana:

    my 5 digit number is - 51,423
    my 6 digit number is - 236,578
my number in between - 60,000

My number is larger than 51,423 because 60 is larger than 51.

my number is smaller than 236,578 because 60,000 has only 5 digits.
