Relationships

In a prism the number of edges are always 3 times the base(8x3=24)and the numbers of vertices are 2 times the base(8x2=16).

In a pyramid the number of edges are 2 times the base(8x2=16)and vertices are one more unit of the base(8+1=9).

Therefore, if we made a heptagonal prism (7 sides on the base), it would have (7x3) 21 edges and (7x2) 14 vertices.

It would be difficult to make a rectangular prism because all the tooth picks are all the same size and it would turn into a cube.
