Subtractive Perimeter (Finding Missing Values)

Step 1: Getting Ready
- Open Smart Notebook, then visit the website with your partner.
- Do a practice screenshot on one icon on the desktop to make sure you're comfortable doing screen captures.
SCREENSHOTS: Remember, the shortcut to create a screenshot is Command + Shift + 4. Then you click and drag a box around the area you wish to capture.


Step 2: Activity
GRADE 5 GROUPS: Begin on Level 1, then move on to Level 2

- For 2 shapes in Level 2, screen capture the first screen (without the perimeter solved). On Smart Notebook, annotate (write your thinking and show any math sentences) how you solved the missing values to find the perimeter.
- Be sure to explain any formulas you use and make markings (e.g. parallel lines, equal sides, angles, etc) that were part of solving the perimeter.


GRADE 6 GROUPS: Begin on Level 2, then move on to Level 3

- For 2 shapes in Level 3, screen capture the first screen (with missing values). On Smart Notebook, annotate (write your thinking and show any math sentences) how you solved the missing values to find the perimeter.
- Be sure to explain any formulas you use and make markings (e.g. parallel lines, equal sides, angles, etc) that were part of solving the perimeter.

Step 3:Math Cast
Finally, create a short mathcast movie explaining how you solved the problem to find the perimeter. Be sure to explain any formulas!
