P.O.W. Due Nov 4, 2011

HALLOWEEN FOR HUNGER

After all of our counting and sorting, we found that our group of 3 students collected 283 non-perishable food items - WOW! All together, our collected donation is approximately 107.7 kilograms (or 237 pounds). Remember, as always, to show all of your calculations.

PART 1:
a) How much food per person did the HfH volunteers collect? (We had three student volunteers)

b) How much food could Team-BAS collect next year if half of the students in  the class participated?

c) How much food could Team-BAS collect next year if the whole class participated?

PART 2: CBC News recently ran a today talking about the use of food banks in Canada. Canada is one of the 8 richest countries on planet Earth, and yet for many people, food banks are a lifeline. The news story includes an article and a map. CLICK HERE TO VIEW the article.

d) Which province recorded the greatest increase in the number of people needing to use food banks between 2008 and 2011?
